All smiles

After all of the edited photos, I only feel it's right to show the original of Chris holding William. They're really close, Chris a doting father, and William full of character and energy, fascinated with the world around him.

Morphing madness

The ability to morph change and recomposite them produces some spooky and rather disturbing results. Feels very odd to see a face that's similar to your own, yet looks like a new person. There's almost a twisted fascination with this, as though it shouldn't be done, but the results are so uncanny that you want to do more. Scary!

The Psychology of Faces (2/2)

The second of two photos examining how we perceive faces in relation to their context. Both photos have the same face, created by morphing the faces of Chris and myself evenly. A comparison of the previous photo. This is a self-portrait, with the new face sumperimposed. The context here changes with the focus on the person rather than the situation. Though the photo is of me, the mind is drawn to creating an identity based on the face, which only exists digitally. Curiously, Chris' facial features are more noticable in this photo, and vice versa. Possibly the effects of introducing changes to a familiar person make it more noticeable.

The Psychology of Faces (1/2)

The first of two photos examining how we perceive faces in relation to their context. Both photos have the same face, created by morphing the faces of Chris, a relation, and myself evenly. Here, Chris was posing with his son, William. This is the result after morphing and inserting the new face into the picture. Chris' features are still noticeable here. Though the face has changed, the context of the picture remains.

Holy secret identity, Batman!

Holy secret identity, Batman!

This is me wearing a Batman costume, revealing my true identity... or as part of fancy dress for charity. Would I really be crazy enough to wear this suit?....In reality, I came dressed as something a bit less over-the-top, and a colleague dressed up in the Batman suit. (Apparently it was difficult to wear. Better him than me!)....I asked for him to pose for the camera, and later digitally added my face to the photo, appearing to wear the Batman suit. Could be an idea for a superhero career... then again!

Look at the pretty light!

Chris is a good sport. He often finds himself on the receiving end of some photo editing, usually at his expense, but he doesn't mind... at least not too much! When I showed him the Manbabies websites, and asked him to pose with William for a head switch, he was happy to do so. Chris' hair has also been changed in colour to match William's. The end result looks strange, but I'm sure he'll see the funny side, as will William when he grows up!

Family multiplicity

William, multiplied by three, with family. As you can see, he is as his name says, strong willed.

Photo by my Dad, edited by me in Lightroom. As you can see, my photostream on Flickr's been dormant for the most part, keeping to one subject. Earlier this year, I thought of what I wanted to do with the stream, whether it should be about a random assortment of photos, or about telling a story with them. The idea was that anyone could view the photos as a story, a story of places I've been, of everything happening around me. For a while, it was convenient to think I could just upload daily or so photos of these events, thinking that would be the best way to keep viewers interested. But as time went on, I became bored of seeing the same old photos from the same event being uploaded. Especially from the Royal Cornwall Show, I thought that they would last a long time, but if I got fed up of having to sort through them, as good as they were in my mind, it wouldn't be very exciting uploading the same old thing every day. The worst thing happened in photography, is that it became a chore to upload photos. I wanted to do much more with them, but the process of sorting, adding tags, location, and time depleted that ability. I couldn't enjoy what I already had, which was to share the photos with people I knew, and people who want to know. It feels strange that there are so many good photos unseen on Flickr, while relatively simple photos gather lots of attention. I thought that to get a good following, you just need great photos, perhaps an almost impossible task. Then I realised it's not the photos that makes a person a great photographer, it's the insight, personality, a willingness to explore new avenues, always wanting to learn, find new tricks, discover new ways of doing things, knowing new people and be willing to help them in all ways possible as others helped you. There is no perfect photo, as a single photo can't convey the full appreciation of what a photographer can do. I'm going to explore the creative taps inside, let them loose, and see what happens.
