webbe uploaded a photo: And he is, er, himself.
This is a photo of Jimmy with chessplayers in a tournament in Cornwall. His head's been copied onto the other players in the picture.
They say chess is like life, and the main opponent to changing your life is yourself. If the internal battles were comparable to chess, it would be a complex game that would take a lifetime to play!

webbe uploaded a photo: View large
A quick clone shot at Lands End, Cornwall, and to mark the 3rd anniversary of posting my first photo to Flickr.
This is the iconic sign next to the start of the Atlantic Ocean. Digitally edited the letters on the middle-right signpost for the occasion. Could have used a similar font, but spent longer to make the letters look authentic. No guesses which signs were added afterwards!
I've been a bit quiet this year, taking a reasonable number of photos, but taking the time to sort them has sapped my enthusiasm a bit. But that's all about to change.
This photo marks the starting point of my return to photography, and to make a real effort in improving. I know I can do more, it's just getting out there and doing it that's the thing. Here's to another 3 years on Flickr: The end of one path brings more, with new people and adventures, where anything can happen.
Note: I haven't forgotten about Zooomr! First photo here was on the 2nd December 2006. Admittedly, this is nowadays more of a backup account for my photos, but I still keep it in mind.

webbe uploaded a photo: The ability to morph change and recomposite them produces some spooky and rather disturbing results. Feels very odd to see a face that's similar to your own, yet looks like a new person.
There's almost a twisted fascination with this, as though it shouldn't be done, but the results are so uncanny that you want to do more. Scary!

webbe uploaded a photo: This is me wearing a Batman costume, revealing my true identity... or as part of fancy dress for charity. Would I really be crazy enough to wear this suit?....In reality, I came dressed as something a bit less over-the-top, and a colleague dressed up in the Batman suit. (Apparently it was difficult to wear. Better him than me!)....I asked for him to pose for the camera, and later digitally added my face to the photo, appearing to wear the Batman suit. Could be an idea for a superhero career... then again!

webbe uploaded a photo: Chris is a good sport. He often finds himself on the receiving end of some photo editing, usually at his expense, but he doesn't mind... at least not too much!
When I showed him the Manbabies websites, and asked him to pose with William for a head switch, he was happy to do so.
Chris' hair has also been changed in colour to match William's. The end result looks strange, but I'm sure he'll see the funny side, as will William when he grows up!

webbe uploaded a photo: Photo by my Dad, edited by me in Lightroom.
As you can see, my photostream on Flickr's been dormant for the most part, keeping to one subject.
Earlier this year, I thought of what I wanted to do with the stream, whether it should be about a random assortment of photos, or about telling a story with them. The idea was that anyone could view the photos as a story, a story of places I've been, of everything happening around me.
For a while, it was convenient to think I could just upload daily or so photos of these events, thinking that would be the best way to keep viewers interested.
But as time went on, I became bored of seeing the same old photos from the same event being uploaded. Especially from the Royal Cornwall Show, I thought that they would last a long time, but if I got fed up of having to sort through them, as good as they were in my mind, it wouldn't be very exciting uploading the same old thing every day.
The worst thing happened in photography, is that it became a chore to upload photos. I wanted to do much more with them, but the process of sorting, adding tags, location, and time depleted that ability. I couldn't enjoy what I already had, which was to share the photos with people I knew, and people who want to know.
It feels strange that there are so many good photos unseen on Flickr, while relatively simple photos gather lots of attention. I thought that to get a good following, you just need great photos, perhaps an almost impossible task. Then I realised it's not the photos that makes a person a great photographer, it's the insight, personality, a willingness to explore new avenues, always wanting to learn, find new tricks, discover new ways of doing things, knowing new people and be willing to help them in all ways possible as others helped you.
There is no perfect photo, as a single photo can't convey the full appreciation of what a photographer can do. I'm going to explore the creative taps inside, let them loose, and see what happens.

webbe uploaded a photo: The sunset from Mevagissey was gorgeous, the view of which many decided to take in. Even this is only a reference; Its true beauty is hard to capture on camera.
I've just discovered machine tags, which may make it easier to find photos where I've used filters, if different people I know are in photos, etc. The filter used here is called "Smooth as velvia", and is a Lightroom preset from Xequals. This is virtually untouched, save for the filter.

This photo marks the end of a stage in my photography life, searching through the archives for photos when my own photography well was running dry. To make myself a better photographer, I know I have to change and make the effort.
But it's not just taking the photos. I have learnt a lot in the last few years, but I haven't made as much of an effort to get to know people, commenting on their photos. No excuses for that, everything's about to change. Webbe is back in town.
